The new generation of MK802 has many new features and tweaks, making it one of the better models Rikomagic have created. The new ESD design protects your television and other units. A softer power up and down means that your data is secure, as well as the device.
This version of MK802II can install new XBMC Media Center For Android v1.0 Build 20130102 Neon. You can download the apk from here. According to Rikomagic, the experience is much better than the first release.
The improved antenna provides a more stable Wi-Fi signal, allowing you to download apps for the Android system from the Google Play Store. The 4GB storage and 1GB RAM allows you to download as many as you want. Instead of a cable to connect the device to your television that we saw in the earlier version, the MK802 II has a full sized pop-out HDMI cable. It also has 1 full sized USB ports and 2 micro-USBs to attach your external devices. These can be wireless keyboards, wireless mouse, or even a webcam to utilise the Skype function.
With the USB power connector providing enough power, there is no need for extra cables for a power adaptor. This makes it the perfect discreet family interactive entertainment system, that incorporated all the best things about TV and internet.
Android 4.0 Operating System
Like its predecessor, the Android 4.0 Mini PC MK802 II runs a pure version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition to Gmail, YouTube and the Google Play Store, the MK802 II comes with a file manager, stock browser (not Chrome), music player and HD video player. Once connected to the Goolge Play Store, you will be able to download and install a variety of apps including BBC iPlayer, Netflix or install apps directly onto the device like the very popular XBMC media player for android which has recently been released.
The Android 4.0 Mini PC MK802 II comes with just two cables: a micro USB cable and a short HDMI extension cord. To power the MK802 II, you would need to get your own AC adapter and attach the micro USB cable to it, as there is no built in battery.
Be aware that the MK802 II does not provide a lot of power through its USB ports, so if you plan to attach a hub, make sure you use one that has more than enough AC power to juice all the devices you plan to connect. When we tried to connect a mini hub with a mouse and keyboard plugged in without any AC power, the MK802 II shut off.
AllWinner Processor makes the device powerful and economical
Like its predecessor, the MK802 II is powered by a AllWinner A10 CPU and 1GB of RAM. The earlier MK802 had a rated processor speed of 1.5 GHz, but actually clocked only 912 MHz, but the MK802 II’s CPU is listed at 1 GHz and clocked 1.08 GHz, making the MK802 II a faster device.
Features of the Allwinner A10 include:
Full HD 1080p Multimedia playback
The standard ‘just out of the box’ MK802 II is able to output HD at 720p (1280 x 720). However, thanks to some hackers, you can run the MK802 II at 1080p by using a custom ROM or booting into Ubuntu or another flavour of Linux. Once the ROM is upgraded, the screen can look as sharp as an Samsung TV.
Root access for hackers and Linux developers
The device comes rooted, which means users should have no problem installing alternative Android ROMs. You can also install an OS on a microSD card and use that to boot the Android 4.0 Mini PC MK802 II into Ubuntu, ArchLinux or other Linux flavours.
